Disney VoluntEARS give generously

Clean the World received a $2,500 donation in May from Disney VoluntEARS in recognition of the volunteer services performed by three people who have regularly helped recycle soap at Clean the World’s recycling operations center in Orlando.

Disney cast members Ashley Newcomb, Trent Leonard and Brooke Samlaska were recipients of “EARS to You” grants from Disney. Each chose Clean the World Foundation as its organization of choice to support with the grant money. The contribution is based on the amount of volunteer hours performed on behalf of that organization. Trent and Brooke donated $1,000 apiece; Ashley contributed $500.
This is a wonderful gift from our Disney VoluntEARS and we are all appreciative of their generosity. The money will be used to help advance our global hygiene revolution. Thanks for helping Clean the World.

Renaissance Era: 1,000 Hospitality Partners and Counting…

Clean the World recently passed a major milestone in its growth within the hospitality industry. During a flurry of activity in May, Clean the World topped the 1,000 mark for hospitality partners throughout North America.

The Renaissance Raleigh North Hills Hotel, a Concord Hospitality property, has been “officially” identified as our 1,000th hospitality partner.

“With the rapid and welcome expansion of Clean the World throughout the hospitality industry, we are honored to be the 1,000th hotel partner to join the global hygiene revolution,” says Mark Laport, president and CEO of Concord Hospitality Enterprises Company. “The Renaissance Raleigh North Hills Hotel is a remarkable property and will proudly represent the sustainability initiatives promoted by all Concord Hotels as we do our part to help stop the spread of preventable diseases by recycling our soaps and bottled amenities. The Renaissance is a gorgeous hotel in North Carolina, and a fitting property to mark a major achievement in our efforts to expand Clean the World’s hygiene revolution from hotels in North America to children and families around the world.

Clean the World now has partnerships with nearly 1,030 hospitality partners in North America, which includes hotels, bed-and-breakfasts, and cruise lines.

“It’s humbling to think that just two years ago we started this organization by experimenting with recycling soaps in my kitchen, and now it has grown to surpass 1,000 hotel properties in the United States and Canada,” says Shawn Seipler, executive director of Clean the World. “We wanted to pause for a moment and recognize the property that took us to 1,000, The Renaissance Raleigh North Hills Hotel. Clean the World signs first hotel partner in Puerto Rico

“Bienvenidos a La Isla del Encanto.” Puerto Rico is helping Clean the World.

Rich in history and heritage, and long an attractive target of Clean the World, Puerto Rico is now on our hotel partnership map.

The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort, located at the foot of the lush El Yunque National Rainforest, has partnered with Clean the World to help provide soaps and bottled amenities for needy children and families throughout the Caribbean region. The agreement represents a personal milestone for Clean the World, and an important step in our global expansion.

“There are strong ties to Puerto Rico for many of our Clean the World team members, myself included,” says Shawn Seipler, executive director of Clean the World. “Puerto Rico is a beautiful travel destination with many hotels and resorts that would be ideal partners for soap and guest room amenities recycling. The St. Regis Bahia Beach offers an ideal location for us to begin a broader push for partners throughout the island, and it with mucho orgulloso (much pride) that we welcome the first Puerto Rico-based partner to our Clean the World family.”


A Mass of Soap from Massachusetts

Thanks to the Diversity Council and staff of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for the generous soap donation to Clean the World.

The Bay State health office conducted a soap drive to help families suffering from a cholera outbreak in Haiti. Their efforts helped collect 250 lbs. of soap that have been sent to Clean the World, and will soon make its way to that island nation.

“We applaud the work of Clean the World and it is our sincere hope that the contribution will help you continue to meet the needs of the individuals you serve,” wrote John Auerbach, public health commissioner.

The Diversity Council traditionally makes contributions to multiple organizations, but decided to sponsor this soap drive for Clean the World as a way to help reduce health concerns stemming from cholera.

Harvest Time distributes bottled amenities for Clean the World

Central Florida is proving to be quite a generous location for Clean the World and a growing list of non-profit organizations and philanthropic partners.

Harvest Time International, which is based in Sanford, Fla., has stepped up to help Clean the World distribute bottled amenities to people in need as part of its organizational mission of “caring by sharing.”

Volunteers from Harvest Time came to Clean the World in mid-May and filled a truckload full of bottle amenities. They will distribute the shampoos, conditioners, lotions and gels to organizations who are asking for hygiene supplies throughout its vast network of missions.

Harvest Time International distributes hunger and relief products to families in need in the United States and developing countries, and responds to disasters worldwide.


A clean start for Alabama storm victims

The recent rash of natural disasters throughout the Southeastern United States has led to increased soap donations to Clean the World. We are doing our part to help turn these generous soap donations into hygiene relief for victims of the storms that have ravaged so many states and communities.

Ron Burth of Venice, Fla., who has previously traveled with Clean the World on soap distribution trips to Haiti, came to Clean the World headquarters in Orlando to fulfill his “next mission.” He filled his truck with more than 800 lbs. of soaps and bottled amenities (shampoos, conditioners, lotions and gels) as part of an outreach effort promoted by Northland Church.

“It’s a super group of people who just want to help wherever there is a need,” Burth says.

He left this morning with three volunteers to begin an 11-hour journey to Alabama. The volunteers are bound for Tuscaloosa, where many homes and families were devastated by tornadoes. They will distribute soaps, along with other hygiene, clothing and food supplies donated by outside organizations, over the next several days.

First Annual Clean the World Gala to Celebrate Soap Recycling Success

Lavish fundraising event scheduled Saturday, November 5 at The Peabody Orlando to honor Clean the World hotel partners, celebrate worldwide cultures and focus attention on the global hygiene revolution

The Peabody Orlando will host the First Annual Clean the World Gala

Clean the World Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization that collects, recycles and distributes recycled hotel soaps and bottled amenities, is planning a celebration in November to draw attention to the power of soap as an aid to promoting hygiene health.

Some of the biggest names in the hospitality industry, the private sector and philanthropic endeavors are attending, including executives from The Walt Disney World Resorts, Caesars Entertainment, Marriott Vacation Club International, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, and many more.

The First Annual Clean the World Gala will take place Saturday, November 5 at The Peabody Orlando. The luxury hotel was one of Clean the World’s first of more than 1,000 hotel partners to join the successful soap and bottled amenities recycling program that has helped boost sustainability and environmentally focused “green” initiatives for hotels and bed-and-breakfast properties throughout North America.

Corporate sponsorship opportunities are available to help raise funds for Clean the World Foundation, which has collected, recycled and distributed more than 8 million soap bars to children and families in need in the United States and more than 40 countries, including Haiti, Japan, Zimbabwe, Uganda, India, Honduras, Mexico and Albania. The Gala, which is expected to attract approximately 1,200 attendees, will feature cultural dance troupes from several countries and continents that have received soaps from Clean the World, including Africa, Albania, Colombia, Haiti and the United States.

“This is a celebration of the people who are at the leading edge of our global hygiene revolution, and the cultures that benefit most from the generosity of our hospitality industry partners, supporters and friends,” says Shawn Seipler, co-founder and executive director at Clean the World. “Our efforts to promote proper hygiene education to stop the spread of preventable diseases would not be possible without the support and the utmost respect for the cultures and communities we serve around the globe.”

Fundraising for the Clean the World Foundation is essential to help broaden the reach of the soap recycling efforts worldwide and get soaps and hygiene-related products in the hands of the people who need them most. Medical research studies have shown that simple hand washing with soap can help prevent hygiene related deaths by more than 60 percent, yet there are communities around the world in which soap is such a valuable commodity that hygiene is considered a luxury, not a necessity.

Each day, 9,000 children around the world die from diseases such as acute respiratory illness and diarrheal diseases that can be prevented by washing with bar soap. These are the top two killers of children under the age of 5. Clean the World Foundation has a mission to provide soap where needed to help improve hygiene and sanitation conditions, to lessen the impact of disease, and to promote better hygiene and living conditions worldwide.

And there is an environmentally friendly mission as well. Clean the World has partnered with more than 1,000 hotel properties in North America to provide soaps and bottled amenities to people in need. Aaron’s donates $1,000 worth of soap

Thanks to the fine folks at Aaron’s for donating $1,000 worth of soap and hygiene supplies to Clean the World this week.

Your generous donation of soaps, baby shampoos and lotions will be delivered next week to central Florida crisis nurseries and women’s shelters as part of Clean the World’s focus on domestic distribution to children and families in need.

Phil Guadagno, regional manager for Aaron’s stores in the Orlando-area, made the donation May 5 as part of Aaron’s Community Outreach Program (ACORP), which is dedicated to supporting charitable efforts involving children.

“At Aaron’s we love to give back to the communities that support us,” Guadagno says. “We found out about the Clean the World organization online and thought it sounded like a great organization. Our goal is to help Clean the World rid impoverished communities of disease. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that Clean the World is headquartered in Orlando, so we knew we should get involved, however possible, in such a worthy cause.”
