Clean the World Makes a Real Ecological Impact on the Hospitality Industry

Help us get viral by sharing this post

Clean the World has been making significant strides in promoting sustainability and reducing waste in the hospitality industry. Founded in 2009, the organization has expanded globally, partnering with over 8,200 hotels and resorts. Its purpose is simple: saving millions of lives around the world while simultaneously diverting amenity waste generated by the hospitality industry.

One of the ways for Clean the World to give life to its purpose is via its Global Hospitality Recycling Program, supported by strong and reliable impact reporting.

The Clean the World Hospitality Recycling Program consists in collecting gently used soap bars and plastic amenity bottles and recycling them. The soap is turned into new bars, which are placed into Hygiene Kits that are sent to areas in need around the globe, hence giving underserved communities access to proper hand-washing hygiene, which is proven to reduce the risks of contracting life-threatening illnesses such as pneumonia and diarrhea by 60%. As for the plastic bottles, they are converted into plastic flakes that are used to produce a variety of new products, and the remaining liquid in the plastic bottles is sanitized, and used in detergents, floor cleaners, and fabric softeners.

To date, Clean the World has distributed over 82 million soap bars, diverted over 25.8 million pounds of waste, saved over 10.7 million kg of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere, and reduced industrial water consumption by 57.5 million gallons!

This means that by working with Clean the World, the hospitality industry can reinforce its ESG commitments and make a real impact in the world by significantly increasing its positive effects on the environment and helping people in need.

Hilton and Kempinski were some of the first major hotel chains to believe in Clean the World’s positive impact on their brands and have been the precursors of what became a global movement. Understanding how Clean the World’s business model manages to make a triple-bottom-line difference when it comes to People, the Planet and the Environment (the 3Ps), numerous European hotels started jumping on the opportunity to partner with Clean the World and its Hospitality Recycling Program. “Hotel partners are eager to make a significant impact by embracing sustainable practices. Clean the World is uniquely positioned to provide them with an easy-to-implement turnkey solution that aligns with their needs while also supporting life-saving activities.”, said Manuel Rodriguez, Head of Operations for Clean the World Europe, based at the Clean the World Europe Headquarters in Prodock, Amsterdam. “Clean the World Europe is expanding and adding team members with a passion to further drive growth and impact in the EU and the UK.”

But what makes the Clean the World Global Hospitality Program even more unique is its powerful and comprehensive reporting system, which provides partners with the ability to track their impact when it comes to the amount of amenity waste recycled, and therefore diverted from landfills, their CO2e emissions reduction, the number of underserved individuals whose quality of life they have helped improve, etc… The verified data is a wonderful tool to support SEG efforts, especially when measured against UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and can safely be shared with key stakeholders, such as Board Members.

As we continue expanding our movement to make the world a better place, we are committed to continue growing our Clean the World Global Hospitality Program.
